Operate Process

Dispersion and dissolution methods

Premix dispersion:

Add Carbopol® Aqua SF-1 slowly to the water phase under high-speed stirring (800-1200 rpm) to avoid agglomeration.

Neutralization and thickening:

Use a neutralizer (such as triethanolamine, sodium hydroxide) to adjust the pH to the target range (5.0-7.0), and the viscosity will increase rapidly.

Optimization process:

Avoid adding high salt or high electrolyte systems directly, which may affect the thickening efficiency.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between Carbopol Aqua SF-1 and regular Carbopol®?

A: Aqua SF-1 is optimized for water-based systems and remains stable at low pH, while traditional Carbopol® (such as 940/980) requires a higher pH (~6.0+) to thicken.
Q2: How to solve the problem of microgels after dissolution?

A: Ensure high-speed dispersion, or pre-wet the powder with glycerin/propylene glycol before adding water.
Q3: Can it be used in alcohol-containing formulations?

A: Yes, but high alcohol content (>20%) may reduce viscosity, which needs to be verified by testing.
