DMDMH (1,3-dihydroxymethyl-5,5-dimethylhydantoin) is a formaldehyde sustained-release preservative synthesized through a hydroxymethylation reaction, which can continuously release trace amounts of formaldehyde (≤0.1%) during use. Its unique "double antibacterial mechanism" (formaldehyde release + hydantoin ring effect) is effective against bacteria and fungi, and is particularly suitable for the long-term preservation needs of cosmetics with high water content.

Conventional system:

Recommended addition amount 0.1-0.3%

Add to water phase below 40°C

High-risk products:

Wet wipes/masks: 0.2-0.5% + 0.1% sodium benzoate

Protein-containing formula: 0.5% disodium EDTA must be pre-prepared

Prohibited scenarios:

❌ Spray products (inhalation risk)

❌ Products for children under three years old
